The Calgary Flames had the worst GAA last season and a big reason was sub-par goaltending. The result is a completely new pair of goalies signed to play in net this season. It looks as if the Flames plan to run with a pair of UFAs and then make long term decisions during the season. The Locks in net are:
Brian Elliott – LOCK – Expected Flames starting goaltender this year.
Chad Johnson – LOCK – Expected Flames backup this year.
This means the Flames top goaltending prospect John Gillies will spend another year in the minors. The thing to watch is what the Flames do during the season. Will they sign either Elliott or Johnson to long term deals? Will Gillies get to play any games in the NHL this season?
